Essay Analysis: Shonda Rhimes "My Summer..."

An analytical essay means you will need to present some type of argument, or claim, about what you are analyzing. An analytical essay is not a summary. Analytical essays usually concentrate on how the piece was written – for example how certain themes present themselves in a story.

Scholars are asked to:

Think About…

- The pros and cons of teenagers getting jobs.

- The responsibility of parents teaching their teenagers about money.

- Consider what it may be like for teenagers having responsibilities, reasons for earning money, and the things that they should look out for when making purchasing/life decisions.

- Now consider the impact  the speaker’s decisions have on you.

As scholars read, they will also watch and/or listen to Ms. Rhimes’ 2016 Essay, “My Summer of Scooping Ice Cream” for the New Yorker, and then they will read and then will answer the questions that are included in this "My Summer..." Essay by Shonda Rhimes [Essay Analysis Activity] doc to submit as an Exit Ticket which is included in the activity itself.
