Jessica believes that a profession in education HAS to be tied to your sense of faith because you are investing in the future prosperity of those around you. You are equipping your scholars, your colleagues & yourself for future hardships, triumphs, & all things that fall in between.
This beautiful soul was the very 1st person that I'd ever known who just KNEW that teaching was her passion from the moment that I met her when we were just 12 years old.
In our middle school program, you could test to be in the advanced math class & she was one of the few black scholars that actually did BUT that still wasn't what made her so unique to me. 1 day at lunch, I was feeling pretty down because I was hung up on the math concepts we were learning & my math teacher [Ms. Benson 0_0] was none too happy AT ALL with my class. Not even knowing me yet [or that I was fan-girling over how smart she was :)], she asked if I needed help. I looked at her like she was my very own sweet precious baby Jesus come to life!! She didn't go outside that day but stayed to help me throughout our entire lunch period.
I WAS IN LOVE!!!
When I made the switch in professions, her words were the ones that landed me my first teaching gig & that became part of my teaching philosophy to this day.
"Always come from a beginning place of wanting to understand. Remember to be firm but fair, & don't forget to follow your heart, believe in that faith."
Her generosity & selflessness has made her a genuine Rock Star in this profession as she has moved up in Dallas ISD!! Her's is a blueprint rooted in her love of God, her devotion to her family, & her true practice of grace and mercy.
